I am looking for a blender to make slimfast shakes with ice. Im looking for a nice smooth milk shake consistency. I am told with the new 4" blade from blendtec, it does not make it as smooth as they say. Its either a vitamix or a blendtec with the 4" container. One thing I do not want to do is use a tamper and dirty another peice. Any thoughts

I love my Vitamix. I use it to make green smoothies out of raw veggies and fruits, and to make soups, sauces, purees, and all sorts of things. A Vitamix is a fantastic blender for daily, heavy use. It turns anything I put in it velvety.
If you are only going to make slimfast shakes, honestly, get a $50 blender at a department store. Before the Vitamix, I had an Oster. (I still have it – I took it to work to use there.) Crushing ice is honestly not that big a task for a blender.
If you want a high end fantastic blender, and you love pureed soups and regularly drink green smoothies made from fresh, whole veggies, get a Vitamix. If all you need is a milk shake consistency using bought powders and ice, you can honestly get that from a $50 Oster at Macy’s.
Good luck in your purchase!

Please, do not get a BlendTec! I had one at the bar to make frozen drinks and it was horrible. It didn’t blend ice well, was overpriced, and broke twice before I got an Oster from Walmart that lasted quite a while.
