I want to start making green smoothies ( spinach, Kale, fruit etc). I have a food processor, and a blender that is not up to the challenge. I am trying to avoid the immediate purchase of a Vitamix. Can I use my food processor? Will I need to use the food processor then the poor quality blender second? I’d like to know what other people use. I can’t believe all raw vegans use a Vitamix or a Blendtec HELP!!!
Thanks for the quick responses! So you think a cheap blender can work with leafy greens?

I just bought a cheap one at the garage sale, still works like magic on smoothies.
Now I have a 45 dollar one, pretty much the same, but quicker by far. I’m raw, and I don’t use either of the products you listed.
You can use as poor a blender as you want for smoothies, as long as the blade are in good condition. And a food processor might be a good idea!
Yes, a cheap blender might make it a wee bit chunky (mine used to) but it won’t be bad, mine never where gross tasting or anything even with tiny little chunks in there.
Good luck!

I have a $40 blender, it’s works awesome! Obviously a really amazing blender will make your smoothies and soups extra smooth, I happen to like a bit of texture. You can make your smoothies in your food processor too though, until you get a new blender. There’s a great site, greensmoothiequeen.com they’ve got lots of good info and recipes for green smoothies. Green smoothies are all about experimentation, so give it a shot and if you find the process too frustrating with the appliances you have, then change it from there, I’m sure you’ll be fine though.

i have a Vitamix and i love it. but before i got it i always used to make smoothies in my disabled blender and it worked, it was just a total pain in the ass haha (but that one was pretty broken for years). anyways blenders are made for smoothies, the only thing i think a regular blender might have a problem with is if you were going to put nuts in your smoothie since it might not process them all the way but youll be fine with fruit and veggies (maybe chop them up a bit first)
