thank you so much for doing this comparison, couldn’t find another anywhere

I just ordered a Vitamix 5200. I had heard great things about it… and I am still excited about getting it.
However I was at a Smoothie King last night and asked the woman who makes smoothies all day from the Blentec as well as Vitamix what SHE prefers.. she said the Vitamix.

I own both machines. I agree, both are great blenders. I choose the Blendtec though because of its size (the first thing that sold me on it), no paddle, ease of use (I’ve found it so easy to you by comparison to the VM I definitely couldn’t switch back now – set and forget… I LOVE that!
Bottom line – both good but BT bit better. Got mine at a local Costco so I had a 90 day easy return if I needed it. Now I’m in love and it’s never going back

This was really helpful. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to do this!

had Vitamixes for 6-7 years. Last year I bought the Blendtec (1500 watt) and I’m not feeling it. It has ejected my green smoothies too many times plus I have to hold the container when in use because it doesn’t fit properly onto the base. I bought it to create my raw recipes for my book but it looks like I’ll have to go back to Vita Mix.
Anyone have those problems?

P.S. I bought the L’equip oil press from you guys via Amazon and I really like it. The press doesn’t really do nuts (which was disappointing as I need to make raw almond oil for my raw beauty product line) but it zips through seeds straight up ’til Sunday. I dig that! Hey and your shipping was off the chain. I got it in a couple of days. Thanks guys… stay groovy.
P.S. Vita mix containers are all BPA free and have been for 2 years.

i don’t get why VM would make the container so tall and thin, that’s the opposite of what it needs to be.

good comparison, although I would never have my baby that close to something this loud.

@boldsoulsister, All of Blendtec’s carafs are now BPA free. Also, they are much easier to clean than Vitamix, and do not have sharp blades to cut your fingers or damage your rubber spatulas.
June 16th, 2010 on 6:26 pm
@boldsoulsister, your Blendtec has “ejected” your green smoothies? Either you are lying or you don’t know what you are doing. I would suggest reading the Blendtec manual or have someone demonstrate how to make a green smoothie in the Blendtec. It is quite easy to do. Ironically, it is the Vitamix that can very easily eject contents. The Blendtec pulls contents DOWN, while the VM shoots contents UP, which is also why the VM comes with a ridiculous tamper to add manual labor, and fussy knobs.

@augiebrooks, you are incorrect. The Blendtec currently comes with an EIGHT year warranty, while VM comes with a SEVEN year warranty. While the jar only comes with a 3 year warranty, you get a LIFETIME warranty on the Blendtec blade and rotor assembly. VM doesn’t offer such a warranty on anything. The VM is a great blender. However, when it is specifically compared to Blendtec on performance and features, the VM is a sad POS. Vitamix doesn’t even come close to Blendtec.

@ajchanter, your 3HP Vitamix is still clearly outperformed by a Blentec. Also, when comparing your 3HP Vitamix to a Blendtec with the 96oz caraf, your Vitamix performance will look as bad as an Oster, as Vitamix does not even come close to Blendtec, by any SINGLE feature!!

@PE425 I went to the site. Which blendtec are you talking about . the owners manual online for the total Blender says , 3yrs motor and 3 carafe for the warranty. Do you have a more recent blender? “WARRANTY DESCRIPTION (US Domestic and Canada)
Your Blendtec Total Blender motor is warranted for 3 years. The jar assembly, including
all moving jar parts, is covered against leaking or breakage for 3 years. “

@pazios2002, However, I would not consider a blender on warranty alone. Even if I were only offered a 3yr warranty when I ordered mine, I wouldn’t think twice. The Blentec would still essentially be a no-brainer. The Blendtec is still a profoundly better machine than the VM 5200 in performance, features, and even price. When Vitamix is compared to the common blender it’s a great blender. When Vitamix is compared to Blendtec, Vitamix is a total joke. Blendtec is in a class all on it’s own.

@pazios2002, It is very interesting to see that the current posted manual offers a 3yr warranty for the base. When I ordered mine, I thought the warranty I was getting was the new standard, and not part of the promo, so I thought everyone else now gets an 8yr warranty for the base as well. Thank you for pointing that out. Perhaps they may make the 8yr / 80,000 cycle warranty standard in the future.
July 3rd, 2010 on 6:16 pm
@pazios2002, I ordered my 2 TotalBlenders and 2 extra 96oz carafes directly from Blendtec (12/27/2009) through a promo, and got an 8yr-80,000 cycle warranty. Of course, that’s for the base. The jar still has a 3yr warranty, and the blade / coupling have a LIFETIME warranty. Vitamix doesn’t offer a lifetime warranty on anything.
